Thinking of buying a mobile phone? Here are some factors to consider

To many people, buying a mobile phone is a serious decision. So serious is the decision that individuals actually take days mulling over which type of phone to go for and how it will benefit them in the long run. However, let’s be fair to ourselves. Not everyone thinks through the decision to buy a mobile phone. There are a good number of people who simply go with what advertisements say or simply go with the choice that a friend, a family member or even a colleague recommends. So how do you go about buying a mobile phone? What are some of the things you need to consider?

Your budget

Whether you like it or not, your budget will determine the kind of mobile phone you go for. It doesn’t matter whether you want a high end phone or a budget phone. Your budget will ultimate determine the kind of phone you go for in either of the categories. That said, having a budget for say a budget phone with standard features does not always mean that you need to go for that particular phone. In some instances, you are better off going for an older high end phone that is affordable and which has some fantastic features as opposed to a mid-range recently released mobile phone. All said and done, your budget plays a very integral role in the final decision you make in so far as acquisition of a mobile phone is concerned.

Contract

Most people find themselves in a dilemma deciding whether to pay for a phone upfront or go the contract way and pay for the phone in instalments over a period of say 2 years. Again, your finances, tastes and preferences will determine which way to go for. If you are strapped for cash and cannot folk out the required amount of money upfront, you should consider going the contract way as it gives you flexibility in payments over a period of time as you enjoy the features of your phones. However, you need to exercise caution as some of these contracts are restrictive and make it difficult for you to switch in the event you want a new phone.

Camera quality

Love snapping pictures on your phone and sharing them on social media platforms? If yes, then camera quality is a very important consideration when buying a mobile phone. When buying a new phone and camera quality is one of your greatest concerns, don’t be sucked up in the debate of megapixels. Most of the times, the megapixels are misleading. You should therefore consider comparing pictures taken by different phones and going ahead to buy one based on the quality of the pictures.

Battery life

This one feature that cannot be wished away especially considering the number of hours we spend on our mobile phones. Do you spend a considerable amount of time on your mobile phone playing games or even interacting on social media? Are you constantly using apps on your mobile phone or simply chatting away on WhatsApp? If that’s the case, battery life is a very important consideration when buying a new mobile phone. Always go for a mobile phone with a long battery life!

Phone screen

No doubt, we can’t wish away phone screen sizes. Large phone screens have become a darling of many people considering that mobile phones are nowadays considered minicomputers. Add to that the fact that a good percentage access the internet through their mobile phones and you will understand why this factor is very important. Depending on your tastes and preferences, go for a phone screen size you are comfortable with and which will make your day to day life easier.

Storage

If you take a lot of photos or simply keep a lot of files on your phone, storage is not something you can wish away. Low memory notification is very annoying especially if you are a memory hoarder who loves to keep images and even videos for future reference. You therefore need to go for a mobile phone with sufficient storage.

In light of the above, there is no denying that buying of a mobile phone is not an impulse undertaking. It requires proper planning and execution. Other factors you need to take into consideration include resolution, software, ecosystem, weight of the phone, resale value and so on and so forth!
